1. Location

Sheraton Kauai sits right on the ocean just west of Poipu Beach. The hotel is very open and airy. $45 million renovation was completed in 1997, making Sheraton Kauai a modern resort, but it still has the feeling of old Hawaii.

The hotel's lobby is lovely, with koi ponds and gardens that sweep right into the interior courtyard, shell chandeliers dangling from the ceiling, and soft Hawaiian music playing all the time.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped with expansive lawns, orchids, hibiscus and tall palms. They look so nice that you are tempted to have a tropical drink and lounge with a book all day! Walking around the property is a pleasure. Each corner brings a new view, and there are many pieces of exceptional art in the public areas.

2. Rooms

Your room will have a nice porch to sit on and drink coffee in the morning, a small refrigerator to store leftovers or juice, and a comfortable bed that will keep you free from any back pain. All rooms are nonsmoking, but smoking is permitted on the lanai.

Buildings are divided into 2 sections by the road. First section is across the stret from the beach, nestled in tropical gardens with koi-filled ponds, and offers garden and partial ocean view rooms.

The other section is facing the palm-fringed white-sand beach and has stunning sunset views over the Pacific Ocean. The best rooms are ocean luxury rooms - they are slightly larger, have newer furniture and bigger balconies.

I want to get a quote!

3. Restaurants

   1) Naniwa Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar
When you step through the "noren" graced doorway, you will feel like you are in Japan. Their menu of exotic and artistic culinary treats is amazing!

You can savor the flavors of such traditional Japanese cuisine as tempura, sashimi, miso soup and Donburi. Chef Mizuno knows how to make extraordinary sushi from Kauai's prime selection of fresh seafood and specialties airshipped daily from Japan.

Whether you choose one of the many sushi or a Soft Shell Crab Salad, or the Otsukuri Dinner (seven varieties of the Chef's daily seafood selection), your palate and your soul will be satiated from the journey.

Open for dinner nightly from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m.

   2) Shells Steak & Seafood Restaurant
This restaurant has one of the best oceanfront settings on Kauai. Executive Chef, Steven Falsetti, is known for his expertise in combining flavors of the Pacific with fresh island produce and herbs, along with traditional side dishes and desserts.

The expansive a la carte menu offers a wide selection of the tenderest and juiciest cuts of prime steak found anywhere, prepared with the freshest herbs, spices and vegetables of Kauai. If you feel like see food, try some of Hawaii's best fish, caught daily off the coast of Kauai and prepared to order.

Friday Night Seafood Buffet at Shells is popular among visitors and locals because of the abundant variety of seafood.

Shells is also the main dining room for breakfast. Kids eat free with a paying adult, both at breakfast and dinner.

   Breakfast hours are 6:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Dinner is served from 6:00 until 9:30 p.m. nightly.

   3) Amore Ristorante Italiano
Here you will find traditional Italian cuisine, including scrumptious pasta dishes, prosciutto, pork and veal, three types of Italian bread, special lasagna and lobster ravioli, all served with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Choose from a romantic candlelight indoor setting to casual café style seating. To compliment your meal, try one of our excellent wines, and finish up with an expresso.

   Open nightly for dinner.

   4) The Point Lounge
As soon as you step in, you will be stunned by the view of Kauai's breathtaking shoreline spread right in front of you. Located at the very beginning of Poipu Beach, this is the "gathering place" for Kauai's spectacular sunsets!

A menu of light casual meals is served from 11:00 am until midnight. Whether you sit inside or outside on the terrace, you will have a kaleidoscope of views: the beach, ocean, surfers, net fishermen and boats in all shapes and sizes.

Every evening, you can watch the Torch Lighting Ceremony and Hawaiian show, with sunset providing the backdrop and some great photo opportunities. It is the perfect time to relax, enjoy the show and an exotic cocktail. Later, live music comes on, ranging from contemporary Hawaiian to Jazz, Rock and the Top 40 Hits.

   5) Oasis Bar & Grill
Just steps from the blue Pacific and next to the oceanfront pool, the Oasis Bar & Grill is a wonderful place for a light snack, fresh salad or delicious grill favorites. The casual, open-air terrace is popular with beach-goers. The Bar offers many refreshing drinks like fresh fruit smoothies, exotic tropical mixtures and a full-service cocktail menu.

4. Things to do

  • Beach
Every morning, you can take a nice walk down the beach. The sand is so soft and clean. On the right side of the beach, waves crash into lava rocks - a beautiful sight to see, and it's just steps away from ocean front rooms.

The beach is good for boogie boarding, surfing and snorkeling. There is a better snorkeling spot within walking distance, at the Poipu Beach Park. You will see schools of colorful fish and an occasional sea turtle in those calm waters.

  • Pools
There are 2 separate swimming pools: one by the garden wing, and the other is oceanfront, with a kids waterslide. It sits right on the edge of the property by the beach, and even though it is not heated, the awesome views fully make up for the water temperature. There is also a Jacuzzi.

  • Mai Tai Hour
Every evening, you can enjoy free Mai Tai Hour (5pm-6pm) which includes all-you-can-drink Mai Tais or alcohol-free punch, sunset toch lighting ceremony, and great Hawaiian music and dancing. It is a nice relaxing transition from daily sightseeing and beach activities to a quiet evening.
