1. Location    Many guests return to ResortQuest Mahana at Kaanapali (former Aston Mahana at Kaanapali) year after year because it has all the tranquility, relaxation and climate they desire. Mahana is one of the most secluded resorts located on Kaanapali Beach. It is located towards the north end, where there are much fewer people, so you can enjoy quiet oceanfront living, yet be close to the activity in Kaanapali and historic Lahaina town.    ResortQuest Mahana at Kaanapali is located next door to the Embassy Vacation Resort, which has several great restaurants that you can walk to any time.    There is a paved path that runs along the entire 3-mile-long Kaanapali Beach if you want to visit other hotels or go shopping at the Whaler’s Village that has many boutique store and a free whaling museum (10-min walk).    Maui’s main airport, Kahului (OGG), is 23 miles away. 2. Rooms    All rooms at Aston Mahana at Kaanapali are very spacious and pleasantly decorated. They have been recently upgraded with new bigger floor-to-ceiling windows that offer great panoramic view both in living room and balcony.    In the morning, you can prepare your own breakfast and eat it on the balcony while watching whales breach (Dec-Apr) and rainbows move closer and closer to the shore as the sun rises in the morning sky.    In the evening, the view is also spectacular as the sun descends into the ocean right between the islands of Molokai and Lanai. Great sounds, too, since you are almost right on top of the waves. When they say “oceanfront”, they really mean it! Each room features: Air-conditioning Private oceanfront lanai Huge windows overlooking the ocean Color cable TV and VCR (you can borrow videos at front desk) Full kitchen with microwave and coffee maker Washer/dryer Hair dryer Iron and board Daily maid service Dry cleaning and laundry service (fee) Non-smoking rooms available         3. Restaurants    ResortQuest Mahana at Kaanapali does not have an on-site restaurant, but there are quite a few restaurants and cafes located within 1-2 miles from the condo. Here are our 4 favorite places:    1) North Beach Grille – next door, at the Embassy Vacation Resort    Great oceanfront dining with Pacific Rim specialties like Garlic Steamed Clams, Shrimp Scampi, Seafood Brochettes, Herb Encrusted Prime Rib, Toffee Kahlua Mousse Cake and other delicacies. They also have a kids menu.    2) Beach Club Restaurant – 2 hotels up the beach, located in ResortQuest Kaanapali Shores    This is a good restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their macadamia nut pancakes are great. For lunch and dinner, expect classic American fare - mostly salads, burgers and fries.    3) Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant & Lounge – 0.9 miles away, at Royal Lahaina Resort    You will enjoy tropical breezes in an open-air setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Maui’s neighboring islands. They serve breakfast and dinner, as well as lavish themed buffets on select evenings. The lounge is a popular relaxing place where you can get a tropical drink along with an appetizer.    4) Basil Tomatoes Italian Grille – 0.9 miles away, at Royal Lahaina Resort    This is the nicest restaurant at the Royal Lahaina. It overlooks the Kaanapali North Golf Course and the Kaanapali Beach. The food is very interesting, a variety of Italian specialties with Hawaiian flair, accompanied by a selection of fine wines.    Start with a Gorgonzola Salad (started with a Gorgonzola salad -- mixed greens with Gorgonzola cheese, walnuts, and a cabernet sauvignon dressing), then try Fish Du Jour (like grilled swordfish over fetuccine alfredo with spinach and mushrooms), or Spicy Italian Sausage over linguini of your choice.    The prices are quite reasonable by Maui standards, with appetizers in the $7-$11 range and entrees mostly under $25. Add to that the front door parking, easy going breezy ambiance and attentive but unobtrusive service, and you've got a perfect dinner! 4. Things to do Beach activities    The beach in front of Aston Mahana at Kaanapali is not the best swimming or surfing beach (the reef is right off the coast and waters are very shallow), but if you swim out about 50 yards out to deeper water, there is some good snorkeling, and many sea turtles.    If you want to swim, there are excellent beaches a few hundred feet in either direction, or you can walk down towards the Black Rock (about 1 mile) which is one of the best swimming and snorkeling spots on Maui.    Another beach, Kapalua Beach, is 10 min down the road, and it is never crowded because of limited parking.
