1. Location Kiahuna Plantation condos are managed by two different companies (Castle and Outrigger), so it is known both as Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation, and Castle Kiahuna Plantation and Beach Bungalows. Kiahuna Plantation occupies a lovely beachfront in Poipu on the sunniest side of the island. It is located on 35 acres of tropically landscaped grounds. The atmosphere is relaxed and carefree. Quaint, low-rise wooden buildings at Outrigger and Castle Kiahuna Plantation look like a 19th century Hawaiian plantation. They are surrounded by lagoons, tall swaying coconut palms, large shady monkey pod trees, and fragrant blossoming plumeria. Across the street is the Poipu Shopping Village, a lovely open-air island-style mall with shops and restaurants nestled in the middle of the gardens. It is a very safe area, so if you are traveling with teens, they can go to the shopping center on their own. Historic Koloa Town is a few minutes drive away. It is a very charming place where you can see ruins of Kauai's first sugar plantation and some of the oldest buildings in Hawaii. Each building has its own story, for example, one of them was Kauai's first hotel where traveling salesmen stayed over 100 years ago. The town has a few local shops, grocery store where you can get fresh island fruit, vegetables and meat, and some restaurants.
2. Rooms Outrigger and Castle Kiahuna Plantation offer 333 condos in forty two 2- and 3-story buildings (no elevators). This is a large resort, so the buildings are spread out, and some garden view condos are set almost 1/4 of a mile back from the ocean. If you want to be close to the beach, book a partial ocean or ocean view condo. Another reason to book an ocean view condo (rates), believe it or not, is the roosters. As you may have heard, Kauai is full of free-roaming roosters, and you will see some around Kiahuna Plantation. They normally hang out close to Poipu Road, in the area where garden view condos are located. It is not a huge problem, but if you are a light sleeper and don't want to be waken up very early in the morning, we recommend that you book at least a partial ocean or ocean view condo. Castle and Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation gives you a lot of privacy and space. All 1- and 2-bedroom condos are individually decorated and vary in style, but all are nice, clean, and get lots of ocean breezes that keep the air cool.
3. Restaurants 1) Plantation Gardens Restaurant The restaurant's building used to be the estate of the planation manager, back in the days when this place was a large sugar plantation. It is a beautiful place, surrounded by lush gardens and carp ponds. Open-air lanai, bamboo ceiling fans, Brazilian cherrywood floors, and a solid koa wood bar enhance your dining experience. Food is excellent, from the Seafood Laulau entree to the Banana Lumpia dessert.
Happy hour at 4pm - stop by for appetizers, pizza and cocktails 2) CasaBlanca at Kiahuna New restaurant located at the Kiahuna Swim & Tennis Club, across the street from the Kiahuna Plantation. You can relax on a cool outside veranda that overlooks the tennis courts and the pool. Open for breakfast and lunch.
