1. Location

Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort (former Ohana Keauhou Beach Resort) has on of the most enchanting settings in Hawaii. The hotel feels like Hawaii – lush tropical gardens extend to the ocean teaming with sea life. You will be surrounded by native plants like ulu (breadfruit tree), kukui (candlenut), hala (pandanus), freagrant plumeria nad colorful heliconia. Mongooses and geckos are scampering about all the time.

This is the only hotel on the island where you can you wade into oceanfront tide pools full of reef fish and sea turtles. Those serene pools add to the hotel’s quiet and relaxed atmosphere.

Outrigger Keauhou’s cultural and historical resources are a real treat. Here you’ll find a replica of King David Kalakaua’s beach house, volcanic-rock carvings and the remains of 3 heiau (ancient Hawaiian temples). Many Hawaiian art and craft pieces are displayed throughout the resort, including murals by renowned artist Herb Kane, outrigger canoes carved from rare Koa wood, and delicate feather leis.

Keauhou Shopping Village (over 40 shops and restaurants) and Kona Country Club Golf Course (36 holes) are 1 mile away. Free hotel shuttle can take you there any time, or you can just walk – it is beautiful outside.

This oceanfront hotel is just 3 miles south of Kailua-Kona, the island’s main village where you will find many shops, restaurants and art galleries. The hotel is far away from the crowds, yet close enough to Kona so you can make the trip several times a day if you want to. The drive is 10-15 min, so we highly recommend renting a car.

Kona Airport is 12 miles away.

2. Rooms

Rooms are surprisingly quiet and extremely clean. They are decorated with wicker furniture and bright and attractive Hawaiian décor.

Even partial ocean view rooms have decent views, but if you can afford an oceanfront room, you won’t regret it. You will be right over the tidal pools, incredibly close to the water. Each morning, you can drink coffee on the balcony while listening to the birds, watching the turtles swim below, and whales and dolphins play in the ocean beyond the reef.

There are 311 rooms. Each room has:
  • Beds: 1 king or 2 doubles
  • Air-conditioning
  • Private lanai
  • Shower (no bathtub)
  • 25” color cable TV
  • Refrigerator
  • Coffee maker
  • Hair dryer
  • Iron and board
  • In-room safe (fee)
  • Daily maid service

3. Restaurants

   1) Verandah Bar

This lounge hangs over the tidal pool, and is a perfect place to watch the golden sunset. The views of the Kona Coast are to die for! There is nothing quite like seeing eels, sea turtles and fish from the Verandah as you sip your Mai Tai.

   2) Kamaaina Terrace

Enjoy a nice dinner outside with a lovely panoramic view of the shoreline in front of the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort. Beautiful Kona sunset, gentle Hawaiian music, and rare green sea turtles swiming below create an unforgettable atmosphere. The restaurants is also known for tasty breakfast menu and Friday prime rib and seafood buffet.

  • Beach activities

Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort has a nice medium-sized pool (no Jacuzzi) and a separate wading pool for children. The main pool is situated next to the Verandah Lounge. You can sit by and listen to live Hawaiian music while the sun sets over the ocean, or find a secluded hammock and relax completely.
