1. Location    This condo resort, built in 1983, is one of the most popular properties on Maui. 11 four-story buildings are spread over 15 acres of pretty and tropical-looking gardens.    Castle Kamaole Sands is right across the street from Kamaole Beach Park #3, an awesome place for sunbathing, snorkeling, body surfing and swimming. The beach is not crowded and the locals like to hang out there, so the atmosphere is very cozy. They have a lifeguard on duty. The beach is surrounded by many large trees in a grassy area where you can have a nice picnic or even lay down for a nap.    Many other fine beaches are located in Wailea, only 15-20 min drive away. 2. Rooms    Condos at Kamaole Sands Maui are a great bargain for everything an experienced traveler would need.    Each condo is well appointed with all the modern conveniences (including refrigerator, stove with oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer), but there is a relaxed, almost retro feel to the place.    Hawaiian-style furniture, tropical prints, light walls and carpets make it feel very open and airy. The condo's combination of air-conditioning and ovehead fans can quickly cool the room down to a comfortable temperature. There is a total of 309 units. Each condo features: Air-conditioning and ceiling fans Private lanai Fully equipped kitchen (microwave, refrigerator, stove with oven, coffee maker, toaster, dishwasher, all utensils) Color cable TV Washer/dryer Daily maid service In-room safe (fee) Hair dryer (upon request) Iron and board (upon request)     3. Restaurants    There are quite a few good restaurants nearby in Kihei. Not much of a nightlife scene in this area – you’ll have to drive to Lahaina for that (about an hour away). Here are some restaurants that we recommend: 1) Greek Bistro – 0 miles away, at 2511 S Kihei Rd #102    Only Greek restaurant in Kihei. The Greek Bistro specializes in spanakopita, lamb gyros, shish kabob, and moussaka; their dolmas are superb. 2) Harlow’s – 0 miles away, at 2511 S Kihei Rd #201    Specializes in fine dining at affordable prices. Upstairs dining rooms offers sweeping views of the ocean. Menu features Black Angus beef, freshest seafood, vegetarian and pasta dishes. Check out the new piano lounge, sunset specials and extensive wine list. Open daily from 5 pm. 3) Canton Chef Restaurant – 0 miles away, at 2463 S Kihei Rd #A16    Casual restaurant specializing in Cantonese and Schezuan cuisine. 4) Da Kitchen – 0.1 miles away, at 2439 S Kihei Rd #201A    Want to try real local food? This place gives the people what they want, and is very successful at it. Simple, cheap and huge meals include favorites like Pork Lau Lau, Loco Moco, Chicken Katsu and Kalua Pork. Every plate features large portion of meat, 2 scoops of rice, macaroni salad and potato salad. Sandwiches and soup are also served. 5) Nick’s Fishmarket – 0.1 miles away, at 2439 S Kihei Rd #206A    Great choice for a nice romantic dinner out. This restaurant is beautifully designed with a huge aquarium, curved granite bar and glass wine cellar that shines like a jewel. You can dine inside at a comfortable intimate booth, or on the outside terrace amid fragrant flowers. Nick's is famous for creative fresh seafood dishes prepared with island herbs and vegetables. Open daily 5:30pm-10pm.    6) Maui Tacos - 0.1 miles away, at 2411 S Khei Rd #B6    Absolutely the best Mexican food in Hawaii! The menu features grilled steak, chicken and island fresh fish served in tacos, burritos, etc. All the basic recipes are authentic - they come from the grandmother of the Executive Chef Mark Ellman. Maui Tacos also offers a “Free Salsa Bar” where you can choose from 5 different salsas. Everything is very fresh-tasting, without the greasiness or saltiness that often plagues Mexican food. 4. Things to do    If you like to be active, Castle Kamaole Sands is a perfect place for you. Many sport activities are either on-site (water sports, tennis and volleyball), or just a few minutes away (hiking, horseback riding, biking, golf). Families with children will love outdoor barbecue, huge lawn area and swing sets.    After a long day, relaxing in a jet spa will make you feel much better. Back in the room, you can watch the sunset from your lanai that overlooks the garden with papaya and banana trees.
