1. Location If you want a nice quiet hotel with real Hawaiian charm, this is the place for you. Hilo Hawaiian is located only minutes away from Hilo's historic Main Street with it's quaint storefronts and museums. Surrounded by fragrant plumeria and lush tropical plants, it makes you think of the Hawaii of yesteryear. The hotel building and its grounds will make you feel very relaxed. Open-air lobby leads you to a patch of thatchy thick grass and a path to the Coconut Island, a quaint and cozy place to read a book or just day-dream. Liliuokalani Park next door to the hotel is a great area for the kids (and adults) to play and jump off some 10-15 ft. pillars into the bay. The hotel is also within walking distance to the Japanese Tea Garden and the magnificent Banyan trees planted by famous people over 70 years ago.
2. Rooms All rooms have been recently renovated. Standard and superior rooms overlook the golf course. Ocean view rooms and suites offer spectacular views of 13,700-ft-high Mauna Ke'a and Coconut Island. If you want more space, book a 1-bedroom suite which will have have a separate living room with kitchenette, and either Banyan view or ocean view.
3. Restaurants Queen's Court Dining Room features American and local cuisine. You can come here for breakfast, lunch or dinner, as well as special buffets and Sunday Champagne Brunch. Great views of the bay! You can get cocktails and appetizers at Wai'oli Lounge, which is fairly small and cozy. The bands called Nahe and 2-Shy play live Hawaiian and contemporary music there on the weekends, so you can dance the night away.
4. Things to do Outdoor activities are the real attraction of Hilo area. You can stroll through the botanic gardens, hike the trails, or explore the lava flows. Volcanoes National Park is only a 30-minute drive away. The variety and abundance of nature will amaze and refresh you.
