1. Location ResortQuest Kauai Beach at Makaiwa (former Kauai Coconut Beach Resort and Courtyard by Marriott Kauai) occupies 10.5 acres on Waipouli Beach. It is located next to a vast grove of wispy coconut palms that once belonged to the family of Buster Crabbe, an actor best known for the 1977 film “Buck Rogers.” The property is right in the middle of the island and has very easy access to any location. Lihue Airport is only 10 minutes away. When you walk in, the breezy resort’s lobby looks very Hawaiian – there are flowers, bright colors and plants everywhere, some comfortable wicker chairs, a 40-ft waterfall and stained glass mosaic of a canoe sailing at sunset. Each week, local craftspeople set up tables right in the lobby to sell some of their works, so you can stock up on authentic souvenirs without leaving the hotel.
2. Rooms The resort was built in 1978, and completely redecorated in 1995 when it was known as Kauai Coconut Beach Resort. In 2004, Marriott chain bought the place (it became Couryard by Marriott Kauai at Waipouli Beach) and carried out another major renovation. The room interiors have become much more modern and luxurious, and, as a result, the hotel's rating was changed from 2 stars to 3 stars. The rooms are decorated in deep rich colors and very nice hardwood furniture. The resort manages to combine ambience of Kauai's past (like beautiful woods and other decorations) with modern-day conveniences (such as luxurious bedding and high-speend Internet). If ocean view is important to you, you have found possibly the best deal on the entire island. Ocean view room is only a couple hundred yards away from the ocean, and you can hang out on your balcony and look at the waves, the pool, and the restaurant with live nightly entertainment.
3. Restaurants As part of the big renovation, Courtyard by Marriott opened 3 brand-new restaurants in 2005. We will post reviews as soon as possible, here is what's known so far: 1) Voyager Grille Dine in an open-air restaurant featuring juicy steaks, succulent local Hawaiian seafood and innovative specialties of the Pacific Rim prepared by certified Executive Chef George Liechty. Voyager Grille is also a good place for breakfast - buffet of a la carte is served from 6:30 am until 10 am every morning. If you are traveling with children, keep in mind that each child 11 years and younger eats free with each paying adult. 2) Cook's Landing This cocktail lounge also serves sandwiches and light snacks. It opened June 15, 2005. 3) Tihati's Hiva Pasefica This colorful Polynesian show starts at dusk with a torch lighting ceremony, and then follows with about an hour of hula dancing and singing. Balmy breezes and silhouettes of swaying palm trees set a great stage for this enchanting performance. All-you-can eat dinner buffet will tempt you with traditional Hawaiian delicacies, and an open bar is available. You can book the luau directly through the hotel once you arrive.
