Top 7 Things to Do on Oahu
1. Treat yourself to a great luau
2. Relax at sunset dinner cruise
3. Take
a snorkeling cruise
4. Go whale-watching at
lunch
4. Dive in a real submarine
5. Pay tribute to Pearl Harbor
6. Immerse
in Hawaiian traditions
at Polynesian Cultural
Center
1. Treat yourself to a great
luau
Why this is
great:
Germaine's Luau is one of the most
authentic luaus in Hawaii. It is located on a beautiful private beach
outside of Waikiki. After traditional opening ceremony, you are invited to the lavish 18-course buffet of Hawaiian dishes. The highlight of the evening is
watching and learning about the dances of the Hawaii, Samoa, and
Tahiti.
We recommend: Germaine's Luau
because it is smaller and more intimate than other luaus on
Oahu.
2. Relax at sunset
dinner cruise
Why this is
great:
How about a dinner party on
the world's largest catamaran? As Alii Kai cruises along Waikiki's
coast, you can enjoy a delicious dinner set against the backdrop of
the Hawaiian sunset. You'll be entertained by dancers, drummers, and
chanters during dinner - they might even invite you to join in after
your meal.
We recommend: Alii Kai
Catamaran Dinner Sail.
3. Take a snorkeling
cruise
Why this is
great:
A 48-passenger glass-bottom
boat will take you to Kaneohe Bay, a less-known snorkeling spot on
the windward side of the island. You can swim, snorkel, suntan, and
play Hawaiian-style water volleyball. Barbecue hamburger lunch will
be served on the way back, along with chips, fruit cocktail, and soda
(alcohol available for purchase)
We
recommend: Captain Bob's Snorkeling Cruise.
4. Go Whale-Watching at
Lunch
Why this is
great:
This is the only
whale-watching cruise that can go past Diamond Head in search of
humpback whales. Navatek is a specially designed high-tech vessel
that claims to offer "the smoothest cruise in the islands." As you
watch the whales play right by the boat, the expert naturalist will
share insightful information and educational commentary on the
behavior and biology of humpback
whales.
We recommend: Navatek Whale Watch
Lunch Cruise.
5. Dive in a real
submarine
Why this is
great:
Atlantis Submarine is a
$3.5-million-dollar beauty custom-designed for underwater
sightseeing. Everyone gets a window seat. You'll dive to 100-115 feet
below, and visit two sunken boats, several new but blossoming
artificial reefs, a sunken plane, and whatever else the captain finds
of interest under the ocean that day. The variety and quantity of sea
life in that area is just amazing: manta rays, barracudas, sea
turtles, and even sharks.
We
recommend: Atlantis Submarines.
6. Pay Tribute to Pearl
Harbor
Why this is
great:
The visit to Pearl Harbor
begins with a 20-minute film that takes an honest look back at the
events leading to that dark day. From there, an open-sided boat will
take you across the harbor. It is a striking image to see the stark
white USS Arizona Memorial with the bright red, white, and blue flag
whipping in the wind above it. The USS Arizona is still visible only
7-8 feet below the surface, and slicks of oil still rise to the
surface from countless leaks and
cracks.
We recommend: Pearl Harbor City
Tour.
7. Immerse in Hawaiian
traditions at the Polynesian Cultural
Center
Why this is
great:
You will start with a scenic
narrated tour of the windward coast, and then arrive to the
Polynesian Cultural Center. You can visit 7 island villages that
feature different daily activities and presentations unique to each
culture. The best two shows are in Samoa and Tahiti villages. A
manmade river winds its way through the park, and free canoe rides
give a good overview of the different villages. In the afternoon, the
river becomes the stage for the colorful Canoe
Pageant.
We recommend: Polynesian Cultural Center
Tour with dinner at Ambassador Restaurant.
