1. Treat yourself to an authentic luau

   Why this is great:
Old Lahaina Luau    Old Lahaina Luau is considered the best in Maui for many reasons. It offers a healthy balance of entertainment, showmanship, authentic high-quality food, educational value, and sheer romantic beauty. Also, they have really good drinks (no watered-down Mai Tais here!)

The food has many famous Pacific Rim and authentically Hawaiian dishes, such as imu-roasted kalua pig, baked mahimahi in Maui onion cream sauce, guava chicken, teriyaki sirloin steak, lomi salmon, poi, dried fish, poke, Hawaiian sweet potato, sautéed vegetables, seafood salad, and the tasty treat - taro leaves with coconut milk.

We recommend: Old Lahaina Luau because it is the most authentic, non-commercial luau in Maui.

You will meet swarms of vibrant tropical creatures (yellow tangs, neon-green parrot fishup, dolphins, turtles) close and personal as they flutter through the deep blue waters, lava formations and corals off Lahaina shore.

   We recommend: Atlantis Submarines.

Maui Helicopter Tour 3. Fly in a helicopter

   Why this is great:
A helicopter tour of Maui isn’t a wild ride, it’s more like a gentle whisk into a rarely seen Eden. Many remote sites on the island can be accessed only by helicopter, including the little-known Wall of Tears in the West Maui Mountains.

The helicopter will climb to 10,000 feet, high enough to glimpse the summit of Haleakala, and fly by the dramatic vistas at Molokai. On the south end of the island, you will be hovering next to 1,000-foot cascading waterfalls. It’s a thrilling, exhilarating adventure!

4. Take a sunset cocktail cruise

   Why this is great:
Sunset Cocktail Cruise    When you board the cozy and spacious catamaran, you are invited to help yourself to an appetizer bar (usually gourmet crackers, cheeses, salad, tropical fruits, etc.), and get a drink from open bar (tropical cocktails, beer, sodas). You can sit down and enjoy the soft breeze while you feast on your food.

As the ship sails farther from the shore, the view of the Maui's coast gradually diminishes. Soon, there is nothing but blue sky and sea, and it seems like you are the only boat for miles around. An hour later or so, the sun begins to set. Searing rays paints the sky with an orange hue, often made even more beautiful by the backlit clouds.

We recommend: Sunset Cocktail Cruise because it is a very romantic and memorable way to spend your evening.

5. Bike down Haleakala Crater

   Why this is great:
Haleakala Bike Ride    Long before dawn, you will bundle up in warm clothes, and hop in a van that will take to up the long, dark road to the top of Maui’s sleeping volcano. Hot coffee will help you bear the unusually cold and thin air until you notice the first rays of light streak across the sky. Next, you will see the sun exploding over the enormous Haleakala Crater in an amazing palette of colors. It’s a mystical moment that can’t be described.

The adventure is not over yet! You hop on a bike and get ready for the 38-mile ride down the 10,000-ft volcano.

Cruising down Haleakala, from the lunarlike landscape at the top, past flower farms, pineapple fields, and eucalyptus groves, is quite an experience - and you don't have to be an expert cyclist to do it. This is a safe, comfortable, no-strain bicycle trip.

We recommend: Haleakala Sunrise Downhill Bike, or Day Tour Downhill Bike (for those who don’t feel like getting up before dawn)

6. Take a snorkeling cruise

   Why this is great:
Snorkeling on Maui    Snorkeling cruise is such a soul-relaxing experience! You will leave in the morning to enjoy a nice breakfast (Maui coffee, island juices, tropical fruits, and freshly baked pastries) on the deck as the boat gently navigates away from Maui coast towards Molokini, a small crescent-shaped islet.

Once you reach the place, the staff will point out the best snorkeling areas, hands out snorkeling equipment, and off you go! The waters around Molokini are smooth, you can clearly see down 50-100 feet. There is always plenty of fish, including eels, tang, parrotfish, and a variety of colorful corals. You will likely spot several sea turtles swimming along with you.

Snorkel, snorkel, snorkel as much as you can, and then return to the boat to dry off in the sun and enjoy a delicious lunch on your way back.

We recommend: Molokini & Turtle Town Morning Snorkel.

7. Go scuba diving

   Why this is great:
Maui waters have some of the finest dive spots in Hawaii. You can expect to see the great variety of tropical marine life (more than 100 endemic species found nowhere else on the planet), explore sea caves, and swim with sea turtles and monk seals.

Some of the best dive sites are Turtle Reef, Molokini and Lanai. They are known for calm, clear, protected waters and an abundance of marine life, from manta rays to clouds of yellow butterfly fish.

There is an unexpected bonus for those who go diving during winter months. A lot of the times, when you are under water, you will hear the whales singing nearby, and feel the song reverberate through your body.
