Top 5 Things to Do on Kauai

1. Fly in a helicopter
2. Take a snorkeling cruise
3. Take a whale watching cruise
4. Hike around Na Pali Coast
5. Discover a secluded beach

1. Fly in a helicopter

   Why this is great:
Kauai Helicopter Tour    A helicopter tour of Kauai is more spectacular than of any other Hawaiian island. If you saw the scene in Jurassic Park when the helicopter dives into the mist-filled crater with the glimmering waterfalls dappling its sides, then you’ve got a sense of what it’s like to explore Kauai by helicopter - like flying over heaven.

Helicopter tours of Kauai are one of the more expensive activities, but don't let that put you off - they are breathtaking and worth every penny. All of Kauai's natural wonders appear one by one right in front of your window as you skim the cliffs, drop into the canyons, hover over remote waterfalls and lush mountains.

We recommend: Ultimate Kauai Adventure helicopter tour because it covers all of the most impressive sights.

2. Take a snorkeling cruise

   Why this is great:
Kauai Snorkeling Cruise    As you are enjoying a light breakfast, the catamaran takes you on a spectacular cruise along Kauai's Na Pali Coast where jagged cliffs alternate with lush green valleys and hidden white-sand beaches. You will see places where Hollywod movies have been filmed.

The catamaran will land at a secluded spot at the base of the cliffs, where you can get in the water and snorkel all you want among colorful fish and other fascinating sea creatures!

We recommend: Na Pali Snorkel Expedition

3. Take a whale watching cruise

   Why this is great:
Whale watching    If you happen to be in Hawaii during humpback whale season (roughly Dec-Apr), don't miss the opportunity to see these gentle giants. The whales come to Kauai to give birth in shallow waters. As the "babies" mature and develop their swimming skills, the whales move further from shore, making them more difficult to spot, so you will likely to see more whales earlier in the season.

When you take a boat cruise, you will often see a whale as close as 50 yards from the boat - turning, breaching, or slapping with quite a splash.

We recommend: Na Pali Whale Watch Expedition

Book Na Pali Whale Watch Expedition on this date: calendar
   Adults: $86.00 each (incl. tax)
Children 5-12 years old: $63.00 each (incl. tax)

4. Hike around Na Pali Coast

   Why this is great:
Hike Na Pali Coast    Na Pali Coast is hikers' paradise. The most famous trail, Kalalau Trail, is a strenuous 11-mile trail with exceptional views of the rugged sea cliffs. Most hikers take the easier 2-mile section of the trail that ends at the Hanakapi'ai Beach.

Another popular day trip is the 2-mile (one-way) hike that begins at Ke'e Beach. The first mile will already reward you with excellent views of the coast. The rest of the trail goes through groves of bamboo, kuki and ohia trees, and finally reaches a sandy beach with a small sea cave.

5. Discover a secluded beach

   Why this is great:
Ke'e Beach    Ke'e Beach is one of the prettiest beaches on Kauai's North Shore. The trick is to get there early in the morning (follow the road all the way north until it ends), so you can have the whole place to yourselves. Ke'e Beach has a reef just offshore, creating a lagoon on the left that stays as calm as a swimming pool.

You can enjoy some of the best snorkeling if you venture out on the other side of the reef - many turtles, barracuda, and all sorts of marine life. Keep in mind that the inlet can have strong currents, and you should only consider leaving the lagoon under calm seas.
