1. What is unique about Kauai?

Kauai has the relaxing, peaceful atmosphere that you won't find anywhere else. It is an ideal place for a romantic honeymoon or just an intimate getaway that you will never forget. Most people who visit Kauai love it so much that they return again and again.

- STUNNING NATURAL BEAUTY
When Hollywood filmmakers are looking for pristine tropical paradise, they come to Kauai. South Pacific, Jurassic Park, Six Days Seven Nights, Fantasy Island and Blue Hawaii are just some of the movies filmed on the island.

You will never see any high-rises here - no building on Kauai may be higher than a coconut palm. Instead, you will be surrounded by waterfalls, bright exotic flowers, and sleepy old mill towns.

On the North Shore, soaring 2,000-foot cliffs of Na Pali Coast separate tropical rainforests from hidden white-sand beaches. More picture-perfect sund-drenched beaches can be found on the South Shore (Poipu). Waimea Canyon, the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," is a huge gorge with most dense rainforest and rocks that change color during the day.

- OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
Kauai is the best island for those who want to venture into the outdoors. You can glide through a grand canyon in a helicopter, kayak along Na Pali Coast, angle for rainbow trout, and hike along breathtakingly high sea cliffs on the North Shore.

Mountain biking on Kauai is exhilarating, particularly along the roads of Koke'e State Park. Horseback riding is a great way to tour Kauai's ranchlands, sugar cane fields, rain forests and secluded beaches.

- SPECTACULAR BEACHES
There are 43 sparkling white sand beaches on Kauai. South Shore (Poipu area) has the best swimming beaches. East Shore has some great snorkeling spots, like Lydgate Park with its clear, calm waters. The truth is you can't go more than a few miles on Kauai without running into a great beach.

- SCENIC GOLF COURSES
A magnificent natural setting for golf, Kauai is home to 4 of the state's top-ranked courses, including the Prince Course, which has been rated the second most difficult course in Hawaii.

2. What are the main attractions on Kauai?

  • Poipu (South Shore)
South Shore is the most popular part of the island because of a cluster of stylish resorts, beautiful white sand beaches, National Tropical Botanic Gardens, many shops and restaurants. The best-known beach is Poipu Beach. It is a series of golden sand crescents, strung together, with waving palm trees dominating the coastline. You can enjoy swimming in calm waters, snorkeling near a couple of interesting rocky points, or surfing.

There are several other lovely beaches nearby, including Lawai Beach (great snorkeling spot) and Baby Beach (little protected cove perfect for very young children).

  • Spouting Horn (South Shore)
Make sure to check out one of the most interesting locations of Kauai - Spouting Horn. It is an opening in the lava rock that sends a geyser of water into the sky with every incoming wave. From Spouting Horn, you will have an unparalled view of Kauai's panoramic southern coastline.

  • Hanalei Bay and Hanalei Town (North Shore)
If you are looking for an ultimate getaway vacation, go to the North Shore of Kauai. It is the secluded, unspoiled part of the island where only a few resorts are located.

Hanalei Bay is framed by a long half-moon of sandy beach, great for taking long walks. At the westernmost curve of the bay, you'll find calm shoreline that is usually swimmable even when the most of the North Shore waters are too rough for safe swimming. Between Haena and Hanalei Bay is Lumahai Beach, the most photographed beach on Kauai (featured in the South Pacific).

North Shore is the land of quaint and quiet rural communities, such as Hanalei town. Apart from the stores and restaurants that fill a couple of center blocks, it's a town of unpretentious small cottages, low-key and tranquil.

It's amazing how this piece of old Kauai can harmonically share the North Shore with Princeville - a modern, world-class vacation area with upscale resorts, golf courses and restaurants. The 5-star Princeville Resort sits on a plateau that stretches from mountains to low cliffs at the ocean's edge. The views are simply spectacular!

  • Na Pali Coast (North Shore)
Na Pali Coast is absolutely irresistible for hikers. Jagged 4,000-foot cliffs that tower above the blue Pacific, a host of caves, lava tubes, and beautiful beaches, make this area definitely worth exploring. The Na Pali Coast is mostly inaccessible except by helicopter, though some beaches and view points can be reached by boat or by spectacular (and often difficult) trails. The famous Kalalau trail follows the cliffs for 2 miles down to Hanakapi'ai Beach, then continues another 11 miles through valleys, past waterfalls and fruit trees.

  • Fern Grotto (East Kauai)
On the east side of the island, be sure to visit Fern Grotto- an ancient cave located on the Wailua River. You will marvel at a 50-foot waterfall dropping from the top of the grotto ! A boat ride takes you into this mysterious place (worshipped by ancient Hawaiians on nights of a full moon) while the boat crew's musicians sing the beautiful Hawaiian Wedding Song.

  • Waimea Canyon (West Kauai)
Waimea Canyon, known as "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific", is one of the most spectacular sights of the island. It is 10 miles long, 2 miles wide and 3,600 feet deep. You will discover breathtaking views, spectacular waterfalls and some of the densest rainforest in Hawaii. The canyon's colorful palette of oranges, mauves and jades continuously changes throughout the day reaching its peak at the sunset.

  • Waialeale Crater (West Kauai)
Surrounded by clouds virtually year round, Waialeale Crater is the rainiest spot on earth (with 460 inches of annual rainfall - can you imagine?). You will see thousands of streams finding their ways down among thick vegetation. If you take a helicopter tour, you will discover a new perspective into the natural beauty that Kauai is famous for.

   Our customers say:

"We had a WONDERFUL time in Kauai and we definitely had our fill of salt water (after scuba diving, snorkeling, and kayaking in the ocean, we feel like we ingested half of the pacific and brought it back to Arizona with us!).

The best thing that we did was taking the Inter-Island Adventure Helicopter Tour of Kauai on the morning of our 10 year anniversary. Doors off and sitting in the front, this ride lands at a falls on the interior of the island where we took a swim under a waterfall, had a picnic, then climbed back on board to continue the tour. IT WAS GREAT and well worth the cost.

We followed this up with dinning on the beach... wiggling our toes in the sand, watching a full moon rise over the ocean, sipping champagne and munching on french bread, brie cheese and grapes. A day and night to remember!"
